Four Mohave Community College students have been named to the 2008 All-Arizona Community College Academic Team.

Rauchel Chelan Farris from the campus in Kingman was selected with Aja Harris and Emily Lyman from the Bullhead Campus, and Julie Williams.

All four will are eligible for selection to the All-USA Academic Team in the spring.

The culinary arts program at Mohave Community College will take on a different flavor for the spring semester.

The program is lowering the number of credits required for a certificate or degree, and will offer students the choice of taking individual classes or the full programs.

Still Giving
Black Mountain School continues to give to Golden Valley even during the sluggish economy. This is Ms. Laird's third-grade class at Black Mountain Elementary School. The students largely participated in collecting more than 1,200 food items for the Golden Valley Food Bank. Laird said she was thrilled with the amount collected school-wide, especially with the economy being so bad. Laird can be reached at 565-9111 for more information.

The Golden Valley Kiwanis sponsors the Bringing Up Grades program at Black Mountain Elementary and EAGLE Academy in Golden Valley and Mount Tipton School in Dolan Springs.

The BUG program recognizes and rewards youth who raise their grades to an acceptable range and maintain or continue raising them from one grading period to the next.

Kimberly Hogan is a study in strength
Her body may be frail, but you cannot say Kimberly Hogan is a weak woman.

Hogan is married, has a daughter nearly 11 whom she home-schools, is deeply involved in local church activities - including Bible study and leading worship - takes 11 semester hours of classes at Mohave Community College, is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society on the Neal Campus-Kingman and carried a 4.0 grade point average into her fall classes.

Garden club members visit KAOL
Volunteers from the Cerbat Garden Club visited the Kingman Academy of Learning Primary School pre-school classrooms on Oct. 20 and Oct. 22 with hands-on lessons about "Apple and Pumpkin."

The KAOL School Gardening program and lesson plans are coordinated by Carrie Garfield of KAOL Primary School, Susan Jones of the Cerbat Garden Club and Nina Brackett of the University of Arizona Mohave County Cooperative Extension School Gardening Program.

Best of Show
Three best of show winners were awarded trophies on Oct. 22 at the 2008 Welding Expo and Car Show sponsored by Mohave Community College and Praxair. The judges were, from left to right in the back row: MCC Vice Chancellor for Administration Lynn Cundiff, Neal Campus-Kingman President Mike Ford, MCC Chancellor Michael Kearns and Vice Chancellor of Instruction and Student Services Chuck Spotts. The winners were, front row from left: Tony Scott, winner of the President's Choice Award for best of show specialty vehicle; TNC Machine won the Vice Chancellors' Award for best of show race car, accepted by Chad Baker, who is also a former MCC welder; and Bob and Kathy Heron won the Chancellor's Choice Award for best of show among show cars. More than 60 vehicles took part in the auto show. The combined welding event and car show drew up to 1,000 spectators to the MCC campus.
